Yes, interesting indeed.
I’ve just driven a 14 mile journey and was specifically looking out for relatively new Audis and Seats (2-3 years old). Visibility was good, so the majority of cars didn’t have their headlights on; just their DRLs were illuminated.
I didn’t see any Seats, but there were plenty of nearly new Audis - I saw at least 12, and some older ones too. All the Audis front DRL’s were illuminated as expected, and none of these cars had the rear lights illuminated. All other (non-Audi and non-Seat) cars I saw that were new enough to have DRL’s also had front DRL’s illuminated and no rear lights illuminated. Not surprising really, as that is the UK default position.
If the OP has owned their Audi and Seat from new and not made any coding changes for the rears to illuminate with the front DRL’s, then this suggests the dealer made the changes prior to the OP taking delivery (or previous owner made some coding changes if the cars were pre-owned). Unless..............the OP has their light switch set to sidelights during daylight hours. In the sidelight position, I think the DRL’s on Audis and Seats act as sidelights (at reduced brightness), so will be illuminated, and so will the rear lights.
