Chipped Wheel
« on: 25 February 2018, 16:36 »
Gave the new car a nice wash today and noticed one of the wheels had a chip on it! Only 3 weeks old  Looks like a stone has hit it and chipped the black paint,I'll have to pick up a touch up and hopefully make it look a bit better.
Don't like these diamond cut alloys, not much choice though.
Collected and being driven....... Gti PP 5dr DSG Tornado red, tints and Brescia's.

Sorry to see that, very annoying! Get a bit of touch up paint on it sharpish and it'll soon blend in and you will barely be able to see it. Help to keep the corrosion at bay too.

It’s so frustrating how easily wheels damage, especially diamond cut ones. Like you say though a bit of dark touch up will stop your eyes being drawn to it.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I also noticed a small chip on one of my Brescias the other day. I don’t remember kerbing it and it’s quite small so maybe off a pothole or something. It’s right on the curved lip of the rim at the outer edge. With these being diamond cut, does anyone know if it’s possible to dress off/buff over and re lacquer as opposed to doing a full refurb?

The wheels are really not hard wearing at all.  I think you'll have to renew them every time you get new tyres!!!
I did take out insurance for mine but won't claim for this chip, I'll wait till a bit more damage to get a refurb.
Will get some touch up on it ASAP so doesn't corrode.

I’m pretty much in the same boat. The damage is too small to justify a full refurb, I’m just more worried about corrosion.

Touch up paint, then clear lacquer on top for good measure

I found the black gloss enamel great for the black part on the alloy.

This is an ongoing nightmare of mine. I just know the black part is taking a motorway rock at some stage.

I feel your pain.

I think i would be just as concerned, if not more so, if the lacquered diamond cut surface got chipped or damaged. If water gets under the lacquered surface, white worm will set in, so it’s really important to spot any stone chip damage to the lacquered sections pretty much as soon as it happens, and repair it with a clear lacquer touch up pen.

I don't see the point in worrying about what ifs. Stones are always flicked up onto cars and any one of them can damage your car. The only way to stop it happening is not to drive your car and what's the point in that?
