handbrake turns

I learned to drive in my mother's Austin 1100 on the North York Moors often covered in snow in the winter. Obviously there were no winter tyres in those days. Handbrake at-the-ready turns became instinctive.

I have driven a rear wheel drive Mercedes for the last 18 years and flipping out the back end is quite easy.

The new Golf git 7.5 is yet to arrive but presumably neither of these driving techniques is possible. The electric handbrake is presumably just for parking? You can't use it to turn? What do people do?

Why would you want to do handbrake turns? Do you go rallying on off-road loose gravel tracks? I find my steering wheel is pretty good for helping me manoeuvre around bends and corners on public roads.

Do what I did, buy an old Polo with a manual handbrake and re-live your youth

You can just press the button but it’s an all or nothing response so it might take some getting used to. I reckon it’s acheiveable though. I tested it whilst doing 10mph down my road and it made me jump

Pulling the 'handbrake' flapper applies the brakes at full force, like doing an emergency stop. If you feel it's necessary to partake in handbraketurnary, the Golf is the wrong car.

Agreed you cant do hand brake turns in the mk7 Gti.
Also as a foot note as my wife found out to my laughter if you open the drivers door whilst moving  ( as she was reversing ) the hand brake comes on I laughed but not alot lol...
