Cancelling a policy after 1 day? Urgent!
« on: 07 October 2005, 15:21 »
Basically i need to insure a car for just tomorrow but Renault wont insure me on it as it's a GTI and i'm not 21.

I was going to set up a new policy with admiral/elephant (well, anyone really) but i want to cancel it tomorrow as soon as i've got the car back from Sussex to Coventry.

Do they give you a cooling off period if you decide that you dont want to stay with them?

Would i incur any charges if i do cancel tomorrow?

Really need to sort this out today so any advice appreciated!

Cheers

you should have either 7-14 days to change your mind, cancel the policy etc. Can't remember off the top of my head I'm afraid mate.

you will prob incur an admin charge but again that depends on the company.

Reading back I've not been much use have I??

hi spirez, i did u a quote earlier on the phone! you are entitled to a cooling off period with all insurers (with us its 14days so should be similar for most places). You will normally incur a small charge from your insurers and if you use a broker they may make a small charge aswell. Just ask the broker/insurer if your not sure cos they have to tell you.

hope this helps a bit

alot of the places youll have to take a 10/12 mnth policy out, normally this requires a deposit via visa/debit then monthly payment unless you wanna pay a lump and then hope for a lump back

i think youd lose a bit of your deposit and admin costs even if you were to cancel after a day... are u insured to drive another car 3rd party on your existing insureance?? most fully comp policys and some tpf+t ones cover the policy holder to drive another car third party only, if you are just drive it.. if you get stopped etc pretend its a girlfriends/mates new car and your driving it home for em... would save messin about.. i know its not 100% legal before people start but for an on paper move its nearly bullet proof
