Sadly no. Google changed something when they updated Android auto a few months back and it disabled the use of 3rd party apps altogether. I think because of that, the author - Chillout, gave up on it.

That is a shame - looks a good app

On another note, android auto on the golf - i have managed to get the messages to play through the speakers (going in 2moro to get app connect installed) however it appears it has to be on MEDIA mode if i have the car radio google responds on my phone but no sound comes through the speakers - is this right ?

No idea what you mean Jeni.

When using AA you need to plug the phone into the USB port. It then uses a data connection over the cable.

I dont have the VW app connect yet so running it from the phone only connected through bluetooth - but it wants me to be on the media setting on the head unit for it to play the messages or for google to respond to my voice

When you get app connect installed and you then Run Apple Car play or Android auto, you will then get full functionality re using voice control etc. to read / respond to messages, although providing you have given the appropriate permissions on the phone, then within the "Phone" app part of the head unit, you can see and read all your messages in there (where you would expect them to be really).

On a separate note, even though on my latest GTI I've taken a step down from the previous two GTD's in not speccing' the top of the range Discover Nav Pro, I have to say that the latest presentation of app connect in the 3rd generation head units is much, MUCH quicker in booting, reconnecting etc, and makes it now an absolute pleasure to use. Android Auto is now up in a matter of a few seconds from start up, and access to it from the dedicated button on the 3rd Gen units makes it really quite and intuitive to use.
