OEM Exhaust Tips?
« on: 24 December 2017, 12:38 »
Buying a used MK7 GTI (2015) and the exhuast tips are very faded.

Any tips for cleaning these or does anyone know where I get get new OEM tips? Would they be clamp on or weld?

Thanks

There is an old trick using a ball of cooking foil and rubbing that onto the exhaust but to be honest it was a waste of time trying to do anything with mine so I went for these in black.

Very pricey but a staggering piece of kit, machined from a solid ally bar.

Mine were very dirty when I took delivery of my second hand 2014 GTI, a good wash to loosen the dirt followed by Autosol (£6 from motor factors or Halfords) and a lot of rubbing and they were back to shining chrome.

Just to be clear, the original tips are part of the pipes and not removeable. They are pretty good quality though, and should come back shiny with a bit of hard work.

Autosol is much cheaper in Wilko than Halford’s.

............but, if you use wire wool, make sure it's the very fine stuff and don't rub too hard! Personally, I'd forget the wire wool.

0000 grade and a very light touch. I found the Mothers metal polish to be better at cutting through crap initially than Autosol.
