Autowatch Ghost - Anyone using?
« on: 15 December 2017, 23:19 »
I've been looking at some extra security for my R when it arrives. I'll go with a disklok and I was thinking of the Autowatch Ghost. Is anyone using one and if so, how do you find it?

I thought about a tracker but I decided that if they do take it, I wouldn't want it back.

Thats what gap if for I guess

So if you've got Gap insurance why spend money on additional devices?

Just because you've got gap cover it doesn't mean that you're happy for some scumbag to take your motor.

Also the gap could come in handy if you lose the car for a reason other than theft, i.e. written off after accident.

OP stated he was thinking of a tracker but then said if it went he wouldn't want it back. Therefore as I said why spend extra money on something you wouldn't want back. Just to clarify I'm the same, if my car gets stolen I never want to see it again.

Ghost is an immobiliser, its purpose is to stop them taking it in the first place.

Just to clarify, i'm the same. If it goes i'd sooner have a replacement than have the stolen one back.

Totally agree with the Tracker - I considered it but like you say I  wouldn't want the car back either.  With the addition of cctv cameras and a network dvr, 3* cylinders and PAS24 doors and handles, just slows them down when they find out a Ghost Immobilizer is fitted and they want the keys.

Yeah sorry, I need gap as the car is a big chunk of money so if it does get stolen/or crashed I'm covered.

I'd like to stop it getting taken in the first place, I've worked hard for it so letting it go with out some security isn't an option for me. That's why I've bought a Disklok and wanted the Ghost. Just wanted any feedback if people use it. I'm unsure what else is on offer which would stop it being stolen.

If they still get it, then bugger it, keep it.

They would need to already be in the car and removed the disklock, therefore made a mess, before dicovering the immobilizer. Visual devices are the best and the disklock covers that base.

It's the same with house security. You just need to do enough to make your neighbours house look more vunerable.

Dubbers right, visual deterrents are often the best form of defence. Such as disk lock.

Unless your car has keyless it's unlikely they'll be taking it without at least one of the fobs. That's where good house security comes in. As a minimum i'd ensure you have a visible alarm and good quality high strength doors and locks.

Ghost would be useful, but there are other things you can do first that could prevent them getting in the car.
