Just had a quick scan through this thread. In a 7.5 GTI/GTI Perf with keyless, is disabling the keyless system as simple as locking the car and then pressing a button on the door handle within 5 seconds? Or am I missing something?

I don’t have keyless bit there’s a simple way to find out; why not just try it.

If you try opening the car door using the normal keyless entry method after you’ve followed the guidelines to temporarily disable it and you can’t open the door, then you’ll know it’s worked.

Yes, thats it.

Only stays this way until its unlocked then you have to repeat the process next time you lock if you want it to behave that way, otherwise operates as expected.

I’ve read on other VAG forums (VWROC.com, Uk-polos.net, seatcupra.net) of owners with keyless entry trying the temporarily disabling procedure and it’s worked.

Don’t know exactly when VW introduced the disable function on the Golf, but if you’re considering buying a used mk7.5, if being able to disable keyless is important to you from a security perspective, you could always try the disabling function on any car you go to view before buying. If you’re considering a new GTI, then the functionality should exist.

Thanks both - I'm considering a new/nearly new GTI so will try that on any I'm looking at. Assuming that works and I set it like that at night, then I don't have to faff about with a faraday box etc.?

It is - You lock the car with the fob button, then touch the outside of the door handle, where you would to lock it keyless, and it will remain locked until you unlock it with the fob. I use this in most public spaces and overnight. It’s nice to have that option.

Just tried this on mine and it works.  So I now don't need to keep putting the key in a Faraday pouch.

I just wish there was a way to disable keyless in the Car Settings, so that it always required the fob to unlock. Although once you know the 'trick' its effortless to do it I suppose.

A quick warning, yes this works but occasionally on mine the doors are open even when the car looks locked ( mirrors folded) after using the keyless function, I haven't worked out if its timing or possibly because I have passengers closing doors after mine, so always check.
