ive not connected my car up to vag com so iam not sure if it will show up or not, but a while back i had my car put on a dignostic machine to find out what the problem was and its because the car is over fueling, because the fuel pressure reg was knackered and the lamabda probe was not sending the correct readings, which the guy said to me could either be knackered as well or its covered in soot, and he recommended that i run some red ex threw the engine..

Ive just had to run 3 shots of Red-ex again in mine as it started sooting up and my fuel tank just emptyed, it went threw £40 worth of fuel in 4days, and i hardly went anywhere, now the red-ex has kicked in. I drove 80miles the other day and it hardly used any fuel..

Thanks god everything in life isn't as unreliable as a Volkswagen.

Seriously, I was told by well informed engineers that REDEX and other additives are just a way of making chavs part with extra cash at Halfords in a vain attempt to boost the power of their 1.1 Renault Clios. If you can seriously notice the difference, your car must have BIG problems or its the old placebo effect. If you are really getting 15 mpg on sensible mixed driving, there is a big problem that would show up immediately to any half decent mechanic. the 2.0 was never particularlt economical in my experience (2.0 bora and mk3 gti) but should be good for 30mpg

Cars that are 4 or 5 years old surely shouldn't have all these problems??  I think i'm going to return to the company car scheme, must only be a matter of time until my 1.8t has all these problems..........

but the red ex is only a fuel cleaner.. it doesnt make the car go faster!!

all that is wrong with my car is the fuel pressure reg, its throwing to much fuel in the engine and making it soot up, the red ex just keeps the soot under control.. other than that my engines fine.

Hi guys,

Ive got black soot and bad mpg as well.Maybe its the regulator but then in my experience the regulators do not fail easily.

I have a 1990 8v GTI from the UK and a 1973 beetle fitted with a fuel injected engine from a car year 1976.the regulator is still the original one.Has not failed yet. Also my golf MK2 has over 300000 miles.Still uses the original injectors and stuff except the airflow meter.

Maybe the problem with this is that the O2 sensor is off and giving wrong signals to the ecu, hence much richer fueling. Also some where in the US Vortex, told to change the temp sensor to a new type with the corrections already in the temp switch.Must try and see this.

Let me know if any one has.

Regards
