Boot lip protection recommendations
« on: 12 November 2017, 12:19 »
Hi can anyone recommend a boot lid protector,
I have a white gti and want to protect the boot lip from scratches whilst loading the grandkids pushchair,
Not sure of which type/colour protector to go for so anyone with pictures and or recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I have xpel full kit in the front end of my CSS

They do a rear bumper strip too

Best bet would be buy some 3m or simulate drom ebaynajd just fit it ourself

Make a template out of craft paper and cut the film and fit it yourself it’s very easy doing flat surfaces

I saw a golf R with the black rubber vW protector in the rear bumper and it wasn’t pretty

Thanks for the suggestions, think mkviken you are right and a black rubber/plastic would look ugly,
I like the idea of the clear film type but not sure if they cover the full bumper lip or just the top flat surface.

I've got a clear VW protector on the back of mine.

Hebegeebee - Are these simple enough to install yourself (I guess just clean surface well and stick on?!) and, more importantly, can it be removed without destroying the paintwork?  Cheers

There’s ones on eBay that are a plastic boot floor liner but with a flap which you drape over the bumper when you open the hatch. Looks like a good idea

I don't have any pictures of my installation. If I remember it in the morning I'll take a photo.
The clear film covers the top and goes over the lip too down maybe about 10mm.

It's a 3M piece and requires a very clean bumper, there's an IPA wipe, a lubrication solution and a squeegee tool included. The sachet of solution is to be diluted and sprayed onto the bumper and the film to aid with positioning. Then use the squeegee to remove the fluid from underneath the film. In the current cold conditions I used a heat gun on its lowest setting to help get the film to stick in place. A hairdryer should also work. This helps speed up the process of getting it to stick in place.

As for removing it, why would you want to?

i used my local car wrap company, to do the 4 door sills and the boot, using clear 3M film. Great job, no air bubbles
