Just spec'd up a Golf R dsg with performance and exhaust and the options I have on my GTi PP and it works out more than an S3 dsg saloon black edition Tech with a similar spec!!

I know which I'd rather have (and it's not the V'dub)
Audi certainly does have a name, style and desirability that VW can't match.

However...

I would NEVER EVER buy one. I really don't like driving my wife's A3 too far, because it becomes uncomfortable. This happens because all Audi cars only have 1 foot rest. On journeys longer than an hour where the cruise control is used, I get an aching right ankle and/or knee. Journeys over 2 hours and my lower back starts to ache from sitting in an awkward position.

In my Golf I set the cruise control and put my feet up on the rests which is a lot more comfortable.

(2 cars in the Audi range have a space where the right foot can be rested on the carpet - the A1 and the R8. So I guess I might buy one of them :undecided: )

Oh dear :embarrassed: I've had mine for just over two years and hadn't even noticed the second footrest  I'll have a look when I go out later. In my defence, I don't use the ACC

The one on the right is not that big though at least for me but I do have size 14 feet so it could be that.

Audi haven't made a good car since the Audi 80 Quattro. 5cyl joy. Yon GTI PP drives just the same in the bends and yet has far more torque across the entire rev range and is so much more economical, it's not true!

So yes. Audis are a bit sh!t.

Completely off topic! And total rubbish. Have you been asleep for about 10 years? Have you heard of the B7 RS4 or the original R8 V8?!!

The point is £40+ grand is probably in most people opinions too much for Golf with some extra goodies on.

That said, other manufacturers are doing the same and the revised RS3 with options is at least £48k now, around £4K more than it was pre facelift. Mind you, its performance is on another level.

That is a proper sweeping statement and absolute nonsense.
Audi make some fantastic cars although I find using their infotainment system a real pain in the arse.
