Timing of oil change service
« on: 08 November 2017, 08:32 »
The CS just flashed up oil chang due in 30 days, that will make it about 8 months old with the mileage standing at about 900.

Seems very early to me??

It’s covered by the 2 year service plan but didn’t expect to be using up a service so soon.

Get it serviced at the end of the 30 days, an early first oil change is a good thing anyway.

Just make sure you ask them to show you the oil level after the oil change before you drive off. It's amazing this job is not something you can take for granted that will be carried out properly as ignorant monkeys have sneaked in several dealerships around the world it seems. Was disappointed to read someone's car being overfilled recently (that was in the US) and then I remembered I had an oil change (Sweden) done a month ago that I never checked myself afterwards. This is not my photo by I have marked on it to show how bad it was:

It's ok to be between blue and red but absolutely NOT above red. Well, mine was at yellow, 8mm ABOVE the red if you can believe that...

Wantmygti; The default service regime setting from the factory is for flexible (long life) servicing - I think the code for this on your vehicle data sticker is Q16.

If you’ve got the service plan (assume this is the official VW service plan and not the dealer’s own?), the services are time and distance based and the dealer should have reset the service regime on your car to time and distance. The first and second services under the service plan are due at the soonest of 10,000 / 12 months and 20,000 / 24 months.

I’d check with your dealer to see what service regime they have against your car’s details as they may have overlooked updating this, especially if your car’s service reminder wasn’t updated (mine wasn’t, and I have the service plan). In any event, under VW’s service plan, the first service shouldn’t be due until the earliest of 10,000 or 12 months and the dealer should confirm this is the case.

Thanks for the details - that’s what I would of thought. But I also thought the cars were clever enough to tell you when the oil needs changing. If vw won’t service I might just change the oil and filter myself.

June 2017 until mid December 2017.... 6 months.

That's a bit mental.

The oil change detection does also work on a resistivity sensor.... but other than emptying random waste into the oil filler, its a bit weird how it could be remotely buggered up so soon???

So I spoke to VW who advised that at the car is counting down in days, not miles, the service is being requested due to an incorrect date in the system, probably the pdi date.

Slightly less helpfully, my local dealership said they won’t change the date and I should contact the dealership who sold the car. Which is a 3 hour drive each way...

Tonight, out comes OBDEleven....!

Tell your local dealership if they ever want your business again then they'll change the date. What a set of toss pots!! Mines incorrect and my local dealer is servicing mine and fixing it and also changing the service schedule. You could always just ignore the service screen and get it serviced whenever you want
