Nah, VW buy map data from someone, one of dozens of different map data providers. These people are busy processing updates for the entire world, not just your town. Their data sources are numerous too.
Google are one possible data provider.
I'll bet you that the Hastings bypass is on Google maps....
Of course it is, and also on my Garmin Sat Nav that I bought to use when I go to Denmark. The latest VW maps are rubbish, the pronunciation is laughable as well, whereas when you had to buy a new DVD with maps on they were fine.
