Updating maps on 7.5
« on: 06 November 2017, 16:34 »
Does anybody know if you can update the maps on the 7.5 via mirror link or android auto or has the maps have to be updated by the VW garage? Just annoying for me at the moment as only had the car for less than 2 months and my commute takes me over the new Halton bridge which just isn't there on sat nav and annoying if I have to wait to have it updated by VW on its first service, any help much appreciated.

If you have standard nav, you have to download the updates to your nav data SD card - you can do it yourself.

If you have navpro, you can either do it using a SD card with downloaded maps on it to update the car's SSD map data or you can update via carnet online... I suggest that if you use carnet then you connect to like your home wifi and not use your phone data allowance-  the full european map set is about a 6.5gb download!

In either case, no you don't need a dealer to do it, if you do, then you will pay!

The 'new' Hastings bypass, opened in 2015 still isn't on the maps, so don't hold your breath.

LOL

Yet on the other hand, Google and Wayez have even the latest changes.

Really the day of the OEM sat nav is gone and they should just give you a terminal for other things to use.

The fact a road isn't on a map doesn't have anything to do with VW or any manufacturer. It's all down to when the roads are built and when and if highways and local councils update records. I tried Wayez and thought it was a total pile of s4ite.

Nah, VW buy map data from someone, one of dozens of different map data providers. These people are busy processing updates for the entire world, not just your town. Their data sources are numerous too.

Google are one possible data provider.

I'll bet you that the Hastings bypass is on Google maps....

With Waze, it'll be on the map in hours. It also provides real-time traffic information, and hazard reporting, including mobile speed cameras.

I'm not sure what Wayez is, but Waze IMO is excellent, and I'd pick it everyday over the VW built in sat nat (I have a 7.5 GTI).
