Has anyone used TDI-Tuning
« on: 04 November 2017, 21:05 »
Hi guys, no doubt this has been asked before but I cant find anything on here. I'm looking at a remap, I'm not looking to go mad. I just want a nice smooth power delivery..... I've seen this which is by TDI-Tune, has anyone had this or knows of anything similar.

If you search there were quite a few comparisons of tuning boxes back when they first came out including tdi-tuning. Generally dtuk boxes got better feedback and became most common

Yes mate, I have one on my Golf GTD and I had the same box on my SEAT Leon Cupra 280 (they can re-program them if you get a new car, which I did: I went from a 2014 SEAT Leon Cupra 280 6-speed DSG to a 2016 Golf Golf GTD 6-speed manual).

The box makes an enormous difference to both TDI and TSI engines, which I can state since I have had it on both. It probably makes a bigger difference to the TSI, which is a good thing in your case.

I haven't ever tried DTUK so I can only vouch for TDI-Tuning. In my opinion, the hardware is decent quality and the maps are excellent. I have never had a single problem and I thrash my cars when the road opens up. Normal day to day running is exactly the same. You just get much more performance when you put your foot down.

Any questions let me know.

I was looking at both.

TDI Tuning seem to offer less power increases from the DTUK and prices almost the same?

I spoke to a local VW tuner and he said the plug in type tuning boxes weren't the best way to get more power and that a proper stage 1 remap such as Revo is much better. Then again, he doesn't sell the tuning boxes. he did explain how they work by just cheating the ECU in terms of air/fuel etc. Then again, mines a lease car so wouldn't bother me too much for any future issues.

Think the DTUK for mine is 316PS so about 311bhp which is a great chunk on the std power for £380! Tempting.

Well ....... after a good think I've gone a slightly different way, I've got Celtic Tuning coming out to my house in about two weeks to do a remap.  There reveiws seem to be good and the price is really quite good,

Personally if it was still under warranty I'd go for a tuning box over a remap (which I did on my 2014 GTI PP). If you wanted to get it remapped after the warranty has run out, simply sell the tuning box on.

Remember that even if flashed back to standard, as soon as VW plug your car in during a service, it will (in the majority of cases) flag your car as mapped (the dreaded and widely recognised 'TD1' flag) and invalidate a good portion of your warranty (engine and drivetrain mainly).

Just food for thought prior to doing anything. Although I do recognise that a 'well written' map would be slightly superior to a tuning box, I don't think the difference is worth the risk.

And recently we discussed how VAG now have a method to detect removed tuning boxes too and TD1 them...

Basically, if you tune it, expect warranty rejections if you claim for parts covered by warranty tuning violations.

Your car, your choice, but be informed.

I'm not going to start another debate on the matter but legally they can only refuse warranty on the part that has been modified so the ECU
