Service Cost.....
« on: 13 October 2017, 12:04 »
VW seem as hard work as ever to deal with.

Having enquired about my imminent 4 year service on my 25k mile GTi that has been serviced annually, I mentioned the pollen filter was changed 2 weeks ago as their was a slight pungent aroma on start up (now cured).

I requested that part of the service will not be required, however I will still be charged for a filter and fitment whether they replace it or not.
There is no movement on service cost prices, well not downward!

I much prefer actually owning a car that I can do what I want with rather than having to have a tick on a piece of paper and inflated service costs!

Has anyone else had anything like this?

Could they not just give you the filter so you can change it again in the future when you want? It is a bit poor though, have you considered using a good independent garage?

The actual cost of changing the pollen filter is about £15, I'd just ask them to supply but not fit the new pollen filter - you've got a spare then.

This the "big" 4 year service, so I thought it made sense to keep it VW. I usually use independents as I like to ask questions about the car and what they might find.

I could take a spare filter, maybe I could start a collection of parts I will never need or use?

Cheers! :)

Find a good indi' as you are paying a dealer just to look over the car and change a few basic parts.

Last service I was told the pollen filter was changed. I had a look and if definitely wasn’t ! So I get a carbon pollen filter fromEurocarparts and did it myself. Could not  be a**** to complain especially as they had not charged for a filter !

I hate having my cars serviced by a dealer.  Charging for things like the afore-mentioned pollen filter, and my particular bugbear, screenwash (I always tell the service reception monkey that I won't be paying for screenwash, so don't bother putting it on the invoice), and then, unless I make it clear that they are not to go anywhere near my paintwork with their filthy, grit-encrusted cloths, "cleaning" the car.

Something which irritates me intensely is the feeling that once my car is on the dealer's premises, they seem to forget that it's my property, and they don't have any duty of care towards it.

A good, honest, diligent independent is worth finding.
