Firing on 3?
« on: 04 October 2005, 19:05 »
Just bought a 91 gti (digifant)

Managed to get it running, but it sounds like its on 3 cylinders (when you rev it it seems to improve slightly), have changed plugs, checked leads and dizzy (all seem well).

Car has sat for a while btw

I wanna clean injectors as one plug is colder (next route to check) how do you get them out and how to clean them ? (airline?).

help!

thanks in anticipation

Paul

worked out that it is firing on 4

it just has trouble revving up to about 3000 but if you hold revs at 1500 (or any other range)its fine :undecided:

someone told me it could be lift pump in tank?

any other thoughts?

It does sound like a fueling issue. Could be a blocked fuel filter, nackered lift pump or nackered main pump. When you turn the ignition only on do you hear a buzz for a second or 2 then it goes off? This should be the main pump priming. If so then it seems to be ok. The lift pump is a common problem.

not checked timing or mixture (not sure how to yet) but car has been sat for a while, just thought it might be a sensor?
