Cheap supermarket fuel used by previous owner?? Try it with some shell vpower or bp ultimate and see if it improves any, may take about three to four tanks to help. It's also getting colder now so the mpg's will drop about 4 to 5.

I use shell fuel certainly not sure about previous owner last nite since fuel was 46.5mpg

As several have pointed out, do away with the £10 here,. £25 there.
Just fill it up, zero the trip and then when you fill it up next time, you will have done X00 miles. You can then work out Xmiles/Ylitres which will translate to MPG.
