Handing a lease car back to VW finance
« on: 21 September 2017, 20:58 »
 Anyone had any experience of this before? I have ended my lease early and have now ben told that it can be up to 2 weeks until British Car Auctions come to collect it.

I am picking up my new car on the 29th September so will probably end up needing to pay for a weeks insurance on my golf. It would have been far easier for me to just drop it off at their site at Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Still raging that it is going to take 4-6 weeks to get my private plate put on retention as well.

Volkswagen finance don't let you do it online as they are the registered keeper and like to charge a £50 admin fee when you put it on a car and another £50 when you take it off. The forms actually get sent to British Car auctions in Peterborough before they send it to Swansea.

Ending the lease early with VWFS was not an issue then? its the pick up and dealing with the private plate is the issue?

How early did you end it and what did they say?

It was easy enough to end it. As i am in the last year i only had to pay 55% of the outstanding payments minus interest etc. Still had £2860 to pay and my settlement figure was £1258. Wasn't even planning to get another car until at least February but BMW offering me a brand new X3 20d MSport worth £38'000 for £399 deposit and £399 over 4 years at 0% apr on a pcp meant things had to move quick.

Ended up getting the last 20d in the country  Still doing 35d for £429 a month if anyone is interested.

I've VT'd two back to VWFS this year. Both occasions I had a new deal with them on PCP. One was over 50% total credit payments and had around 75 quid excess mileage to pay. The second had a shortfall to get me to 50% and larger mileage payment and 25 quid "cleaning fee". Which was just BCA topping up their fee. I used some dealer contribution to clear this.

On both I managed to organise handing back at the dealership and BCA collecting from there with no issues. Process takes about 3 weeks.

How did you go about handing it back to the dealership? I would prefer to do this as my local VW dealer is right across from the BMW dealer.

Thanks for the the responses guys. I am 16 months in to a 24 month lease deal - so you are saying that if I VT'd after say 20 months they would not demand the remaining four payments in full?

i am considering doing that as I will be at my mileage limit then anyway so could avoid extra charges and maybe even new tyres too.

Your mileage limit will be pro-rated to the length of time that you've had the car.

Understood, although I think it will still be cheaper as i am also likely to avoid the first Longlife service too.
