EU Numberplates
« on: 05 September 2017, 22:00 »
Before it kicks off, I don't want to start another war between the two referendum factions (fed up with never ending brexit this brexit that), but does anyone know what the hell the rules are yet about number plates and driving on the Continent?

We have EU number plates on our current car, and it means not having to stick one of those naff stickers on the boot when we travel abroad by car (which is often). By default I'd just get the same again, but if we're forced to change them in 2 years, then I'll be a bit pissed off.

I see quite a few number plates with a union flag or Scottish saltire, but if you have one of those, do you still need the crappy sticker when abroad?

I doubt there's an answer to this one yet. Be prepared to be pissed off no matter what you do.

Oh and don't forget to cover requirements for where you are going, such as the stickers for Paris:

Never knew about that. Thanks! (Though learned the hard way about motorway badges in Austria )

One more question... If I were to get numberplates from someone like these guys, is it just the standard size?

https://replacement-number-plates.com/

I think I'll go with EU plates again (while we can), but the dealer only offers standard plates with no badge bit on the side (which is a bit odd as our last EU plates came from the dealer).

I wonder how it will work for me in that case because I'll be driving a UK reg car but I'll be still an EU citizen with me being Irish. :smug:
