Possible move to the GTI club

Hi all
I'm currently looking to purchase a GTI - my budget is £17k plus my 2008 civic type r , so around £21k ish Had my civic from new and previous car was ep3 type r , so all in about 15 year driving type r's.

What can I expect for my budget guys? I had hoped to get 66 plate 5 door in white , manual preferably with low mileage (pp would be a bonus) am I being too hopeful with my budget ?

Am I also right in thinking the GTI comes with enough toys as standard ?

Jamie you should consider leasing the GTi as there are occasionally some great deals on offer. This also means it's a little more unwise to purchase as more lease cars coming to market can devalue the used models hence you may suffer more depreciation.

As regards standard spec yes they are well equipped hence again why they suit leasing. I'm waiting for a GTi , all I added was metallic paint and 19" wheels both very essential in my eyes as standard colour and wheels are poor.

Standard and extras is neither here or there buying second hand. Have a look on VW's website at their used cars and Autotrader to see what's available. Or stretch your budget to new? £24.7k on drive the deal for a new 5 door white basic car including any deposit contribution....

Leasing works best if you swap regularly, cover average mileage or less, and don't add lots of options. If all three of those criteria suit you then it could be worth a look, but if you plan on keeping the Golf as long as you've kept your last Civic then you may find leasing expensive.

The Golf GTi is a pretty well specced car as standard, no need to go overboard with extras. 18 inch wheels, led/xenon lights, heated seats, sat nav and climate control are all standard. Later pre-facelifted 5 door cars also get keyless entry as standard.

Thanks for the replies . Not really up for leasing as I do tend to keep the cars a fair few years especially if I really enjoy them . That's why I have had my most recent type r 9 years . To be honest it's spotless and hasn't missed a beat but I fancy a change .plus the Mrs leases her motors and don't want 2 lease cars .
I had looked at the dtd and other brokers and have seen the prices which are sadly just out of reach , especially with getting married in 3 weeks .
Was really hoping to get a 66 plate as it's the agreement with the boss that car is no older than year old .

Will keep scouring the classifieds to see if a bargain comes up . Feels like this £17k is burning a whole in my pocket 😂

VW must have removed 5 door facelifted gti's getting keyless as standard, wonder why they did that

I bought a 3dr white GTI with PP in March this year with 6000 miles on the clock for just over £22k. Mine was an ex demo from a dealer so I see no reason why you can't get what you're after.

You're budget seems about right. New plate is just out so could be just the right time to buy. 17 plate was just coming out when I bought, that's why I got a good deal on mine.

Got a 1k dealer contribution plus 2 free services and a years road tax thrown in.

I advise get down to your local vw and see what they have in stock.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for . Sadly I live in north Wales and local dealer here tends to be more expensive than if I travel few hours .
Just need to see something in the righ ballpark for me to try get a deal done . Luckily I'm not desperate it's more a want  👍🏽

Test drive the DSG now as if you do after you have bought a manual then you may well regret it. The DSG is like it is made for this car and matches up to it very well.
