Panoramic roof question
« on: 01 September 2017, 14:07 »
Hi all
I've ordered the Panoramic roof on my car but have been given the jitters by a number of people who have hinted at issues such as noise (creaks) and leaks. I cannot find much relating to sunroof problems, apart from Passat issues, and was looking for your thoughts, opinions and experiences.
I did speak to the service manager at my dealership who said he 'honestly' couldn't remember an issue with the golf roof but confirmed the Passat had a problem which was sorted.

I had a Mk6 GTi with sunroof for over 3 years with no rattles or squeaks. I currently have an R with sunroof and have not heard any noises from it. As has been said many times before with regard to sunroof and, more commonly, door squeaks, get some Krytox lubricant from VW or eBay and that will clear it.
Ignore the people who tell you "I've heard someone say..." or "They tell me that...." and enjoy the car.

I have a Sunroof on my CS and when it is in the tilt position I can hear a clicking noise quiet frequently that sounds to be coming from somewhere else in the car, this does not happen when the sunroof is fully open or when it is fully closed. This can be quiet annoying when one is driving with the infotainment switch off. As regards to applying lubricant I do not know exactly where to apply it.

Got the Pano sunroof and initially I had creaking noises from it which seemed to be worse in the cold weather but I can honestly say that I have not heard any creaking from the sunroof over the past year. Have never lubed it and constantly have it open in the nice weather

Yupp, I know... I have now gone and jinxed myself and will forthwith be subject to annoying creaking noises

I have the sunroof, it's just over 3 yrs old and no issues, I just keep the seals moist and clean and grease the mechanism once a year - don't think I'd buy a car without a sunroof

No problems to date 3 months. Love it, brightens interior on a dull day closed and gives an added dimension open. I'm a frustrated drop head really.
Arrived 15/5/17 Mk 7.5 R Lapiz 5dr DSG, Prets, Pan Roof, DCC, Rear View Cam.
Our other car is a Mk7 GTI DSG 5dr Tungsten, Vienna, Rear View Cam, Park assist.

Love the sunroof on our CS which we've had a few months, as CHB says it gives an added dimension to the driving experience, only noise depends on how windy it is, not had any creaky rattling issues at all. Even if its crap weather you can have the shade back just to brighten interior a little, sure you'll enjoy it

Thank you for all your replies which have taken away the concerns which had been foolishly growing in my head.
I think the longer you wait for your car the more you question what options you have chosen and whether you should have taken others.
As an aside I popped into my dealer yesterday and he had a couple of 7.5 GTI's on the forecourt. They were not customers cars and were 'base' models with no extras whatsoever. The amount of people viewing them while I was there for half an hour was astonishing.

Thing is, compared to most other cars the "base" is absolutely loaded.

Ok, so its not "free" but it takes out a lot of the umming and ahhhing
