Lane Assist
« on: 03 June 2017, 23:15 »
Hi Everyone.

Today marks my first step in to the Volkswagen world with my order of a GTI.

I've seen some videos on YouTube of the Lane Assist centering the car in the lane. Does this work on all cars with Lane Assist fitted?

I've chosen the "Lane Assist with Dynamic Light Assist" option, which is the highest available with the manual gearbox. However the DSG has "Lane Assist Plus inc Dynamic Light Assist" which includes blind spot monitoring.

Will my car centre itself in the lane or is this feature a part of Lane Assist Plus which is only available with DSG.

You don't need 'Plus' for it to centre you in the lane, standard Lane Assist will do it - although it isn't turned on by default (it's in the menu as dynamic lane guidance I think).

If it came as standard it would be ok but I'd never select it as an option. Had it once in a hire car (V40) for about 3 weeks and it was pretty damn annoying. Granted, you could get you feet up and sit back on a long journey but not once felt like its an option I need on a car, I prefer to do the driving/steering

Thanks guys that puts my mind at ease. Just need to wait 16 weeks now!

Couldn't agree with you more Jim. Most of my driving is made up of B road blasts in my current Mini JCW, but I'll take anything to help out with my semi-regular 250 mile trip with 200 of those on the M40, M42 and M6.

I wanted Dynamic Light Assist so had to order Lane Assist to get the required camera.

I believe this might be DLA - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOSLMs5Pma8

Likewise - and because the VW configurator app was incorrect I got Lane Assist for free.

I have ordered a new car today and was looking at the £630 lane assist / Dynamic Light Assist option but was a bit confused at the contradiction of the website/Configurator/ebrochure ( No surprise for VW there!) When it came to building my spec on the VW ordering system it listed two variants for the led headlights both of which were a no cost option.
Option A: led headlights with dynamic curve lighting. Or
Option B: Led headlights with Dynamic Light Assist
I opted for option B. Would I be right in thinking this will automatically get Lane Assist too? As I understand it you can’t have DLA without lane assist so by ordering option B this is how you got lane assist for free?

I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time), but my understanding is that you get the curve lighting unless you spec lane assist, which itself should be a paid option.

That’s what i thought but when you go through the build options the two versions of headlights I quoted earlier come up and you have to pick one of them. Both are no cost options but you can’t complete the build without selecting one of them (you can’t select both either) I selected option B but it didn’t force me to add Lane Assist ???

When I ordered mine i wasn't given a choice, and i'm expecting it to arrive with the curve lighting.

This is fine by me. I have lane assist on my Octavia and have barely used it, ok if you wangle it for free but it's not something i'd pay for.
