The pro Nav used to make sense in the early Mk7 days if you wanted to splash out. The MIB1 composition media /  discover Nav was a bit rubbish. Tiny low res screen. Slow. Ugly. Lost in the dash. The pro Nav was a big leap up in specs.

The mib2 generation brought big improvements to the Discover Nav - much closer to the spec of the Pro, barring the screen size.

With the facelift, I think the pro nav would be very hard to justify. The Discover is now same screen size (8.5) as the old Pro and it has physical volume / zoom buttons that the pro loses.

Thanks - this was my thoughts too and given the 'holy trinity of gimmickery' type comments of some reviews I have now decided to save £1325 and stick with the standard Discover with the bonus of retaining a proper volume knob and menu selector buttons.  I find it quite frustrating/dangerous using the touch screen on my Mk7 Pro unit so want to avoid full touch screen too.

As long as there is no impact on sound quality - my current Pro is combined with Dynaudio which I will certainly be opting for again - well worth the money IMO

One thing I don't think ever changed between CM/Nav/NavPro was the audio quality.... that was changed with adding dynaudio.

Has the resolution caught up with each other?

Bigger screen with lower resolution isn't going to look good next to one with a higher res. Although you would never know if you haven't seen the Pro Nav.

I imagine the resolution is the same. The MIB2 Disco Nav resolution is the same as the MIB2 pro nav.

New Navpro is 9.2 inches, a different aspect ratio to the old one and 1280x640 resolution as opposed to 8 inch 800x600 previously.

Maybe..just maybe the actual touch screen will be more responsive.... but we shall see!

I agree on paper the new Nav Pro is a better spec, but every MK7.5 I've seen in dealers with it fitted was absolutely covered in fingerprints - I thought my Nav Pro (MIB2) was bad, but they look horrendous to keep clean ?

Probably something to do with it having no buttons so everything has to be done with a touch on the screen. At least with the earlier units, you could change volume, change source etc. without having to actually touch it.

Maybe voice control works properly, easily and without hiccups on the Mib3? Might stop sticky fingers :)

My mk7.5 Golf R arrived last week and it has the new nav pro fitted. I must be honest and say that I wouldn't have specced it myself, but my faithful dealer found a car with everything else I wanted (except dynaudio) and got it to me in two weeks! There is no doubt that it looks pretty cool and the resolution is much better than the discover nav on my Mk7 GTD. When the system is switched off it clearly shows up fingerprints, but these are not really visible when it is in operation. Even as a technophobe, I find the system pretty easy to understand and operate. Having said that, using the touchscreen when in motion is not easy and the gesture control seems to work when it wants to. In conclusion, it looks great, but £1350!!!! I'd think twice. Hope this helps
