Honda regains Nurburgring Fwd record!
« on: 24 April 2017, 12:04 »
Potentially good news in that it could mean more focussed and interesting Golfs to come from VW.

Honda literally smashed this in lap terms...

"The all-new Honda Civic Type R is officially the fastest front-wheel drive car ever to lap the Nürburgring, after setting a new record nearly seven seconds quicker than its predecessor.

Honda says that the record was set earlier this month as part of the new car’s testing programme, with a development car tackling the infamous Nordschleife circuit in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds.

The previous front-wheel drive record holder, the Volkswagen Golf 7.5 GTi Clubsport S ran it in 7:49.21 last year, itself only 1.4 seconds quicker than the outgoing last-generation Civic Type R."

Bring on the Golf Clubsport SS /RS/  RSR, whatever it takes! :)

Saw this on the Daily Mail this morning, very impressive.

GTI needs some serious updating if it's gonna compete!

Yes, but just look at the thing.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Interesting lack of comment in that article on it not being a production car, having seats and audio removed plus it's on track tyres. So other than that, totally fair.

The exhaust on that thing....

The one in the middle is the anti lag pipe, looks a bit naff and would have looked better if it was ended someplace under the car.

Let's be fair, the Golf VW used was a development car that later went on to become the CS-S.

You may recall that many of us were slightly disappointed that VW didn't go as far in their search for lightness as we had hoped, when the production variant appeared.

I am sure there are guidelines that manufacturers adhere to, otherwise it would just be a pointless exercise.

I'm not defending Honda, but ultimately competition should lead to the potential for a more focused performance variant.
Once again, the issue may be how few they actually build for customer consumption.

The Megane will then knock this of its perch.

I have to admit the current one has grown on me as in a world of humdrum I think it appears to the inner chav in me.

Guilty pleasure but I quite fancy one of these for a couple of years as the daily to appeal to the inner hooligan.

You sure? Heard from a few now it is simply to cause back pressure and reduce drone at higher RPM's. Still the whole car looks like it had ram raided Halfrauds.

That's a great achievement but I think the car looks disgusting; each to their own.
