Now the long wait begins.
My current car took 9 months. 9 months for Mk6 GTD  I seriously hope the GTI Performance will not take that long. However, if it does not arrive until October, I would be tempted to wait until January for registration.  :undecided: ... that would be 8 months

I was going to order/haggle next week but my wife has talked me into looking at a clubsport instead so we are off to look at one today.

The new reg's start on 1st March so there would be no point in waiting until Jan.

Cars registered at the start of the year can sometimes be valued slightly higher than the same car registered at the end of the previous year.

However some see running a brand new vehicle in the depths of winter as a downside.

New builds do seem to be coming through much quicker than they were in 2011 Daz. I seem to remember that there was unprecedented demand for the mk6 GTD at that time, and there were also issues with the supply of DSG gearboxes.

If it does take until Oct for your new car to get to the dealer, why on earth wait another 3 months until January to take delivery? Assuming you plan to keep it for a similar length of time that you've owned your mk6 GTD (6 years?), whether it is registered as an Oct 2017 or Jan 2018 will make little difference (probably £300-£400 at most) to the value when the time comes to sell it in 6 years time, so less than £1.50 a week over your period of ownership.

Where would the dealer store it during those 3 months and what is the risk of it getting damaged while it's in storage at the dealers? If it's kept outside in a compound with the protective wrapping on the roof, bonnet and tailgate, There's still a risk of damage to the paintwork from bird sh!te being left on the uncovered/unprotected parts and etching into the lacquer.

I can understand waiting to take delivery if you're buying rather than leasing or PCP-ing and it arrived within 2-3 weeks of a registration plate change (from 17 to 67), but waiting 3 months when it would still be a 67 plate? I wouldn't, but that's just my opinion.

I too had a long wait for my mk6 GTD (8 months). I took delivery in July 2011 - 6 weeks before registration plate change and had no regrets doing so.

Available to order from today and an updated price list will be available on the 3rd of May.

Carwow dealers will be offering the same % of discount as non performance pack models

Configurator app is showing a premium of £1,115 for the Performance Pack option with the added 7-speed DSG 'box and £1,360 with the same 6-speed manual. Surely some mistake? Has someone got the two prices the wrong way round?
Roger.

...this. It would be registered as a 2018 car and only a few months until British Summer Time.

Though if it arrives around October it would be a great time to see if the new Dynamic Lights are any good in the dark evenings.

Either way, it will be a long wait. "Anticipation is nine tenths of delight."

PP specific press release 17/5/17:

Hottest GTI: updated Golf GTI Performance opens for order

Everything in concert: the updated Golf GTI Performance

When the updated Golf GTI was introduced at the start of this year, it had a power increase that brought it in line with the previous Golf GTI Performance. Now the updated Golf GTI Performance model has itself become a more potent proposition thanks to its new output of 245 PS.

With an increase of 15 PS compared to the previous model, today’s GTI Performance model is now the most potent Golf GTI currently available. The power upgrade results in a torque increase of 20 Nm to 370 Nm. This is available in a broad band from 1,600 rpm to 4,300 rpm.

Standstill to 62 mph is reached in just 6.2 seconds, and those figures apply to the six-speed manual as well as the newly developed seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The GTI’s top speed is 155 mph in manual form, and 154 mph when equipped with the DSG gearbox.

Larger brake discs, with red-trimmed front calipers, and an electronic front differential add to the compelling dynamic ability of the Golf GTI Performance, which is available to order today, priced from £29,280 (RRP OTR).

Yet it is an ‘everyday’ car too, with five seats and a useful 380-litre boot, or up to 1270 litres of carrying capacity with the rear seats folded. Available in three- or five-door configurations, the new GTI Performance is fitted with Volkswagen’s advanced Active Info Display as standard. This turns the instrument binnacle into a 12.3-inch high-resolution TFT screen to allow the driver to choose from an assortment of potential car and journey information.
