Drive the deal?

Ok, after a few test drives today, we want to buy a 7.5 GTi DSG.

Nothing too exciting, just 90% tints and keyless.

Tried a couple of dealers and the best we could get was about 4%, which took the price to about 30k.

Car wow has come back so far with £27,442 (with the deposit contribution), but the DtD price is £25,696. Quite the difference.

Has anyone actually ever used drive the deal? Do you actually get that price? Where does the order get placed? Basically, are they legit?

Does anyone know of any dealers that will actually match the price, or eve get close to it? I prefer to do things face to face, but not if it means paying considerably more!

Yes they are legit. The price on the screen is the price you pay, or at least it was when I bought my Mk5 through them in 2004.

You may not get a local dealer though, so if this bothers you also try Carwow or Orangewheels. They will also offer large discounts but perhaps not quite as competitive as Drive The Deal.

I used them for my wife's Mazda last year. They are fully legit and she was full of their praise for the process. In that case, the car came from a dealer in Norwich and as it was on finance we had to go and pick it up so that the paperwork could be signed, but they paid for the train ticket.
Their cars come from UK dealers and if you don't need or want to go and pick it up, it can be delivered to your door (with a few exceptions).

I took my DtD price to my local dealer when ordering the Golf I'm due to take delivery of and they matched it. I was about to pay the deposit to DtD so if they'd have said no I would have walked away and done so.

Drive the Deal have a really good reputation around the car forums and are just a car broker who put you in touch with a dealership for a guaranteed price. I was very close to ordering through them for my 7.5 GTI but I went with my local dealership in the end.

The dealership that DTD put you in touch with for VW's is JCB in Kent and it would have been a 500 mile round trip for me. I managed to get a deal with my local (Crewe) for under £500 difference which was worth it for me to purchase locally and would be a lot easier to deal with any problems.

Take your quote to the local dealers and tell them you sign for the car today if the match the quote. They will usually  get near to it , especially if they need to meet their targets for the month! nearer the end of the month the better so wait to next week. Its always worked for me. They won't do the deal over the phone but in person they will be up for it and fools if they are not as they have lost your business if other dealers are giving that discount they can.

Out of interest, which dealers managed to get close to the price? If I could get within £500, I would place the order directly with a dealer, but the two I tried in person today, couldn't (wouldn't) even get close.

I've had two offers from car wow so far, neither are as good as the DtD price.

You can sometimes negotiate with the dealers on Carwow. I managed to get one of my local dealers to drop their price to within £300 of DTD by doing this.

Failing this, try ringing DTD and ask them where the closest dealer is that they deal with. They sometimes have other dealers besides the one offering the onscreen price.

I bought my R through DTD and really great all round experience with both them and the dealership JCB Medway (DTD's southern dealer).  They have a very good reputation and know of many people who have used them and recommend them.  They were cheaper than carwow by some way, and just cheaper than Orangewheels.  Local dealer could not come close to broker price.

As said yeah but in my case the dealers were quite happy to discuss deals over the phone especially if your doing a self new build on the configurater  once you get the short code for what options you want speak to the relivant dealers email them the short code tell them what your happy to pay.
My 16 Gti came close to 36k ish I told them I'd pay 28k and they agreed and that's what I paid.
That bein said it was 2 days to the month end so as mentioned waiting till month end can pay dividends saving you money
