Extremely illegal unless your golf was registered before 1973 or something.  Not sure if it's an endorsable offence though.  :undecided: I've got black and silver on my camper but there's sod all they can say to me as its 1971.

I've had one on the front of mine since May, i figured with just the front they wont spot it unless they're coming towards me and i'm hoping no copper is going to bother turning round for the sake of a number plate.  I've stuck it on over the proper one with double sided pads as:- (here's a word of warning)

Several years ago a mate of mine had itallic lettering on the number plates of his RS turbo, he got pulled over regularly and got off with loads of warnings but on one occasion the copper ripped off his no. plates on the grounds that they were not legal (bit red-neck america if you ask me) breaking the front bumper in the process.  he then fined my mate the £30 someone else in the thread mentioned, and threw in a producer for good measure!!! naturally my mate put in a complaint about this blatant abuse of the coppers authority which got him nowhere, but then he is ginger... (sorry gingers!!!)

Had that happen to me on the way to my exs uni, just leaving my road and i passed a copper just after a roundabout, i was following a rather slow learner. He turned around at the roundabout and pulled me over, I told him it was a new bumper (lie) and told him i was sorry (lie) and he told me the car was nice and let me go with just a warning. Doubt he would of done it if i wasnt stuck behind a learner doing 25mph tho.

I think its all down to the mood of the copper and how you deal with them, i'm always friendly to them and they never seem to give me any trouble, i got let off doing about 80mph in a 30 zone once, one of them even jokingly asked what rally team i drove for.

One thing that i don't get though:-  almost every time i get pulled the copper will tell me  "its a routine check as a lot of these cars get stolen every year"  really??? i thought they were getting a bit rare myself!!! also why would someone nick a 23 year old car that sticks out like a sore thumb over a modern and i don't really want to say it but maybe even quicker car???

thanks for all the feed back guys, dolls and gingers (lol). i think i may risk it and get some put on cuz it would really compliment my grey and clear look.
just incase you ever get pulled on a spot check or for routine checks or even if plod pull you for a reason say your breaklights out or something there is an ACE you can pull:-
very nicely tell the plod me that you would like a DEFFERED TEST. he will then have to arrange with you a date within the next 14 days for him to come to your residence and inspect your car. giving you time to sort out any problems you have and there is nothing he can do about it. remember a DEFFERED TEST!

Deffered test eh, sounds cool i'll have to remember that one but i hope i never have to use it,

Using the same theory do you reckon you could you ask them to re-do their speed-traps at a more convenient time? -  like when the cars parked and i'm tucked up in bed!!!
