Sure is a great deal. Was this car being advertised online? Would be nice to know what tactics you used to lower the price.
No, not advertised online as far as I know. I just sent an email to around 15 local-ish dealers and some got back to me, some didn't. I was initially asking for a used one for around 20k and this dealer got back to me and said there was a new unregistered R in their stock for £29,365. I then asked whether that was the best price they could do and they got back to me with £25,995 figure. I then said my ideal budget was £25k and they said yes, this was after getting in touch with their dealership elsewhere and finding out that the car had literally, today, just been registered as they wanted to get it done by the end of the month i.e. Friday.
Just been looking into pre-registered cars a little more and the other thing is most insurance companies will give you a brand new car if it's written off or stolen (not found) within the first year.
I used to work in the insurance industry and yes, most insurers will provide a replacement brand new car if your car is the subject of a total loss claim or is damaged beyond economic repair within the first 12 months of it's first registration. However, this is subject to you having bought or leased the car from new and you are the first registered keeper. If you are the second (or any subsequent) owner / registered keeper within the first 12 months from date of first registration as in the case of buying a pre-registered car and the car is written off or stolen and not recovered, then the normal market practice of insurers would be to settle any total loss claim on the basis of market value at the time of loss and not give you a brand new car.
VW insurance adopts this approach, and so does my current insurer. Link to VW's insurance policy below. The relevant 'small print' is in Section C ; 'How we will settle your claim under sections A or C' - 'Replacement Vehicle' section of text (right hand side of page).

Yeah, I had a look at my Privilege insurance policy and pretty much the same thing. Chance I'll have to take TBH. I would have been looking at a year old used model at pretty much the same price as I'm getting it for new so wouldn't have had this available anyway.
