Jacking the MK7
« on: 19 February 2017, 17:53 »
I just bought a simple solution online off Ebay. Basically it's an "Ice Hockey Puck" with a groove cut in it for the seam where you would normally use the VW boot jack supplied with the car.

Came the other day, however the groove wasn't quite wide enough, so I cut it easily with a hand saw. Cost a couple of quid, and an easy solution....

I'd be worried about those solutions splitting and causing an accident. The VW jacking points are a far better and safer option if you jack the car regularly.

You don't even really need to cut a slot in it - I got one and turned it into an inverted top hat (using a hacksaw) so it fitted nicely into the top of the trolley jack. Now I simply jack it up on the original jacking points - it's steady as a rock too.

These are a neat little idea Juggler, well spotted.

I'm wondering whether the Audi A3 8V chassis puck would be the perfect fit for the MQB Golfs.
I jacked up my mk7's a good few times wishing I had something like this but I've not seen the underside of an 8V A3 so can't vouch for any differences or similarities with the sills.

I bought one of them when I got my jack, even before I got my car!
They're not bad but far from a perfect solution.
Why car makers can't build in a more obvious and easily accessible jacking point is a mystery.
Relying on a thin, welded seam is pretty poor.

Minis are quite good for that, they have four jacking points made of what looks like thick rubber.
Well I'll assume that's what they are as I've never properly looked but you can see four thingies hanging down underneath.
