Clarkson's Golf GTI on The Grand Tour

The final episode of The Grand Tour featured Clarksons Golf GTI vs James Mays BMW i3. Pitched as an old petrol vs new electric hatch segment. Was ok just for the footage of the Golf which is basically exactly the same as my car! (PP, CSG, DSG). Not sure if thats a good thing that we have the same taste!

Was quite suprised how well the i3 did in the drag race. Obviously the i3 was much quicker off the line but it did manage to hang for longer than I thought.

I haven't been able to watch that as I'm too tight to pay for it. Hopefully it'll be on Dave soon....

The reason he bought it in that spec was so it looked dull and borring and blended in  :grin:  :wink:

Haha. Good write up I'd not read before. A man after my own heart (:huh:) although I've had more compliments on this car in 4 months than all my previous cars put together, so i'm not sure how well it blends in!

Me too, van drivers when they pull up alongside, people in petrol stations, work colleagues, neighbours and their visitors, it's mad! Afterall, it's only a hatch. Didn't get as many comments when I had my old Lotus and that was rather distinctive.

It was a good review of the GTi.  First time Clarkson has said something sensible in ages.  It was good to see the real-life demonstration of automatic cruise control. Not so good was the Apple Play text function. Looks like his GTi had optional 19" Santiagos.
