3 Door Factory Protective Strip

From the Factory the 2014 3 Door came with a protective clear strip of film in the location of the lower back edge of the door frame. The bit that pokes out facing the front, and potentially exposing the leading edge to damage without it.
I removed mine a long time ago as it was dirty, peeling and with a lot of air bubbles underneath and looked unsightly. I guess the person putting these on at the factories didn't have a great deal of time to do this carefully. Wondering whether to put them back on but can't see them on VW system anymore, so just wanted to see if 2016/17 cars have or have VW stop putting the protective vinyl in that location?
picture here in first post if it helps.

I initially left mine on but the edges soon became dirty - worse looking as it's on a white car.
Took them off and wouldn't even think about putting them back on.
I think the fact they're quite thick and on an awkwardly shaped surface doesn't help either.

Noticed these when I got mine last Autumn. The do not look to bad after 10k miles but I'm sure,as said above they will peel and then I will remove them permanantly.

The wife's A1 (3dr) comes with them - took them off straight away and 11k miles later, no chips where they were. The sooner you get them off, the easier it is (and cleaner).

Thanks all,
I removed them some time back in 2015 as they were pretty bad looking. though I might be able to heat and stretch a new set, a little like applying 3M. But if i remember it was way thicker than the normal film so probably not possible. perhaps will look at using some 3m I used on the door sill before.
