Stop/Start Malfunction Again?
« on: 26 January 2017, 08:21 »
Malfunction #2 occurred this morning making me look a bit of a chump at the end of the A15

The first hiccup occurred when I went to de-activate the Stop/Start at the exact second it was about to cut the engine (reason being its a roundabout on the commute that is always backed up and you need to perform an F1 start to get out, psychologically I like the engine running ). Anyhow, as I pushed the button to de-activate, the engine stopped and I got a message to start the car manually, not a big deal but when it happens out the blue and you have a line of cars eager to get on behind, you look an idiot as you go through the panic of getting it back into park, pressing the start button and then Drive while numerous chances to launch onto the roundabout go by!

This morning, similar thing, another line of traffic, different roundabout so I am happy with Stop/Start. As I approached and slowed to a stop it appeared to activate at the same time I went off the brake and to the accelerator, same message to start manually.

Its not even something I could demonstrate to the dealer as you may never hit that exact time, I might just have it off all the time so it never happens again

Best thing to do is diactivate via VCDS or if you haven't got that then just try and get into a routine of deactivating it when you first get in the car.

New to MK7 GTI ownership. I don't like the start/stop.  I always deactivate it as soon as i start the car

As above VCDS de-activation is the answer.

I never had a problem with mine other than frustration on the rare occasion I forgot to turn it off as soon as I started the car.

Deactivate it 50 yards from the junction.

Probably the pushing of the button as its about to cut out naturally has totally confused it.

Exactly what Clubsport said. Annoying when you forget to switch off on start up. I deactivated it via OBDeleven.

That happened twice with me, now I occasionally get an error that stop-start error hasn't stopped the car i.e. all conditions were right for cut-out but cut-out didn't happen. I do make use of stop start if I know i'm going to be stopped a while, but if at a roundabout waiting to shoot out, I leave the clutch dipped. If at a set of lights I let it kick in if I know i'll be waiting a while and dip the clutch when I see the lights the other way turn red - and i'm ready to go.

Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I get a stop start error if when starting it cranks for a while (a common GTD starting problem). After that, it won't attempt stop-start - just the same as it won't if the heating/cooling is active.

When i get the error on startup like that, I switch off and crank it over again (it will fire first time) and the error goes away.

Its the only annoyance I have with stop-start really, but from what you all say, its more of a pain with DSG.

I've had this happen a couple of times, both on my present GTI with DSG and on my previous GTD manual. I don't think it's a fault, just down to the system being confused, as said above. Annoying, I know, but just one of those things.

Is that the roundabout at the North side of Lincoln? Always found it difficult, when I was commuting Scarborough/Lincoln. I reckon it could be made a lot easier and safer just by adding, or changing, a few road markings. The flow of the by-pass traffic is too fast in both directions and, without gaps, it is very hard to get across the roundabout on the A15.

That's the one  doesn't help when most people never indicate either!
