Daytime running lights according to the owners manual,  after my previous post I may of mistakingly thought these were the fog lights but according to this extract there are separate lights in the headlights or in the front bumper. When we purchased the car these were in the bumper ( which I assumed were the fog lights) it appears since having some work done this has been reset need some advice on how to get this setting back . Thanks.

A little confused by your post but, MK7 GTis running lights are U shaped LEDs around the outside of the outside headlight.

There are a number on lighting mods that can be done with VCDS  or ODB11- see the VCDS/ODB11 threads.

Was the WORK you had done by someone with VCDS/ODB11, if so get them to code the lights back to how you want them.

There isn't a UK spec (or any other country AFAIK) Mk7 golf that uses the fog lights (or any other light fitted in the bumper) as DRLs. Both the halogen and all varieties of xenon equipped cars have the DRLs in the headlight themselves. If it was using the fog lights as DRLs from the factory, I'd take it back and tell them it was faulty and to fix it under warranty.

Having the fogs on all the time is illegal, inconsiderate and dangerous for other road users. A better idea is to have them come on with high beam - that way you get the benefits of the verges being lit up on country roads etc. but they will go off when you dip your headlights.

Have a look under the lighting settings as if you have had some VCDS work done they may have put the option to turn them on of off manually.

Some cars use fog lights as DRL's but operating at a lower output. I know on VAG cars with halogen fog lights, it's possible to set them as DRLs and reduce the output using VCDS. Equally it can be done with halogen headlights.

A better idea is to have them come on with high beam - that way you get the benefits of the verges being lit up on country roads etc. but they will go off when you dip your headlights.

I couldn't agree more with this. In the pre CAN-BUS days, we could easily make this happen with wires and a relay, but those days have long gone.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
