I did mine - went for 6000k and they match the DRLs and fog lights perfectly.

It's a bumper off (or at least dropped down) and headlights out job though.

Changed mine on my Mk6 for Philips xtreme vision bulbs, 4800k and they were excellent, really white and much brighter. Also bear in mind that anything over 5000k is not approved and illegal to use on the road.

I know where you're coming from as some get very blue (and even purple) the higher up the scale you go.

I definitely wouldn't go any higher than 6000k though, from both a colour and light output perspective.

I think 5k is more than enough, any higher and they are too blue and and you're loosing too much actual light.

If they are no better than the lights on the wife's Tiguan I will be doing more than changing the bulbs.

Out of interest, what are the standard bulbs?

35w 4300k is the standard German bulb used.

Do you think they need upgraded? I find the standard Xenon headlights great especially compared to my work van  headlights which are basically candles.

The lights on my April 2016 GTI are significantly better than those on my March 2014 GTD were. Never looked into the reason why, but I would say that they are a little whiter with much better fill in and slightly better range. The GTD lights were my first experience of HIDs, and I was not overly impressed, but my GTI lights are superb and still impress me when I first turn them on.

Anyone know if there was a change to the system?
Roger.

I only upgraded mine as the light output looked particularly yellow next to the DRLs and (when foggy) fog lights.

Light output isn't really affected (at least not enough to notice any significant difference) and the lights are still top notch (if a little low due to the lowering springs - must adjust them again)
