Keyless Entry Problem
« on: 22 December 2016, 08:20 »
Last night I got in the car with key in pocket as usual. Pressed the start button and the car would not fire up. Came up saying "hold key to surface, refer to manual". Checked manual but could not find where I needed to hold the key (it was dark and the other half was getting annoyed with me getting annoyed ). I assume it needed to be repaired or something? After 20 minutes of holding the key in various places, I gave up and went and got the spare key and the car started no problems. Anyone else have this and know where this mythical surface is? Cheers

Hold it against the steering column, where the ignition would be.

Battery low?

Have there been any low battery warnings?
I had to change the battery twice in three years but there were always warning messages.
Just change the battery.

Not had any low battery warnings and only got the car new in September so didn't suspect that. I'll get it changed anyway. Cheers.

This is in the manual. You need to hold the key fob next to the steering column where the ignition barrel would be in a non-keyless car. There is even a keyless sign engraved in the plastic on the steering column. You can see a picture of it here:
