Tyres on a lease car
« on: 17 December 2016, 11:33 »
Time has come to replace the Mrs tyres on her GTD lease car.

I've tried a search but can't find the answer. What are the rules on what tyres have to go on the car to keep VW happy when we return it? Do they have to be the same make? In this case Bridgestone. I prefer Michelin pilot sports to be honest. Do they just have to be premium brand tyres?

Will be useful to know as well for when my lease GTI arrives.

Thanks in advance

They only need to be the same rated and often the lease company will have a deal with a certain tyre brand. Also have a word with the manager with the tyre centre where you are getting your tyres from, a few 'drinks' for him will get you any tyre you want

If they are included in the lease then the lease company will put on what they get cheapest (from a number of premium brands). Leaseplan seem to really like Pirelli and Dunlop.....

If they aren't included usually you can fit any tyres that are the same size and correct speed and load index, this should be in the fine print of your lease contract.

Any tyres would do, they don't give a sh!te. They only check the thread depth when returning the car. On my old 2014 GTI I have replaced the cr@ppy Bridgestones after 1 year as the fronts were gone so I put Pilot Super Sports from Michelin. When I returned the car to the dealer after 2.5 years they stripped them off and put some no names and placed the car on sale on their used cars website. I'm guessing they have theirs own black market business for tyres nicked from returned cars.

Cheers for the info. It's a none maintained lease so I have to pay for them. We are extending the lease for another 12 months so will go with a decent tyre

Will wait to see if the Michelin's come on offer at Costco in the new year
