blimey them pics were from 5 years ago!! im going to be upgrading both window regulator panels on the mk4 20vt i got in jan later in the spring so ill take pics and re host n post, will buy the parts and upgrade the cables / clips as i did before. its easy really, going to check in the next few days that i havent got the metal clips already!! , hopefully if there plastic ill get them done in a few hours, there worth doing as a bust plastic clip can seriously screw your day, week or holiday because if its going to happen its going to happen at the most pants time!!

will take pics as and when i do it and edit the original posts so they go on that.

My passenger side window just snapped on Friday night! I had a quick look yesterday thinking it had just came of the runner's then realised the mount had snapped off the regulator? I've been thinking i was needing a new regulator untill i came across this thread, is it just a simple fix by changing the clips to metal ones? Can somone just clear this up for me, as i don't want to be buying a brand new regulator for no reason! Cheers

Great instructions in the link posted I may need to refer back to them later. My regulator went yesterday, Ive stripped down the door already now just waiting to collect the reg kit from GSF after the bank holiday, so I'll have to wait  £29.50 GSF on line price not too bad I thought! One of my plastic glass clips broke and this meant the cable got chewed up in the cable take up wheel so ive got a little more work than just replacing the glass clips.  I knew this was a common problem and was expecting it to happen sometime. Ive done this kind of thing on other cars and it can be complicated, so at least the link posted will help me if i get stuck.

my drivers window just collapsed - how bloody annoying - always at the wrong time

not looking forward to repairing and for now i'll have to put it in the garage for i don't know how long

just to let everyone know this happened to me and i read all through this thread i got the repair kit from GSF £24 plus vat (trade).
kit isnt any way as hard as in the tutiorals it came with all cables and runners all i had to do was drill the 4 rivits holding the rails on to the metal plate and undo the reg the bolt the new one in eazy peazy took me 10min to install so GSF kit FTW!!!

Well my Golf managed 13 years before the window dropped, which has happened today.

My girlfriend was using the car at the time, so needless to say I'm holding her personally responsible
