Mk6 gtd to mk4 r32

Right want to change from gtd and wondering if I should aim for mk4 r32? I potter around town for work to and from sites and mpg is shocking so not actually fussed about that but having said that would I basically be spending more on fuel than I do now if I went to r32? Or about the same as I am not doing motorways or long journeys it's mainly 5 miles here car off the  5 miles again. Always told petrol is better for shorter journeys than diesel? I miss my mk4 130 and got it to look like an r32 so may as well get one?

Whats the gtd mpg?
Icant see a 5 minute drive in a r32 beings amazing as itll harldy be warm when you get there but you get that unbeatable sound so mpg for me would be out of the equation when its a r32

Running costs are not just about the fuel. The youngest Mk4 .:R32 will be something like 12 years old now, so will have on going maintenance costs far higher than the Mk6 GTD.

It's not the sort of decision you can make by maths and other peoples opinions, because there will be an infinite amount of pros and cons. You need to do it because you want to.   
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Exactly. I have an 11 year old leon (basically a mk4 golf) we have had since new thats only done 50k. The car looks immaculate inside and out but age has started to catch up with it this year or so.  Front wheel barrings, suspension arm bushes, trackrod ends, bottom ball joints, brake calipers front and rear. Heater motor, door locks mechanisms, Inner door seals.
. All repairs ive done myself keeping the costs down and the advantage is mk4 golf bits are not expensive.
The costs in my case are still cheaper than depreciation on a newer car though.
Finding a good unmolested mk4 R32 at a reasonable price without rusty wings or boot lid could also be a challenge.

R32 will give you significantly lower mpg than a GTD..... sounds better thou. But in Dudley you'll be needing a new suspension in no time, and all the speed cameras there, well....

This is all true but I have always wanted one and done a value on the GTD and its pretty much a straight swap so to speak. I have some parts already from my mk4 gt tdi that i never got round to using so there are costs down in some aspects. Its just shy of 7k done 3 door, 93k, full service history,short shift fitted to gearbox, wheel spacers, launch control, lowered 30mm, decat non res miltek exhaust system and just age marks so i have been told and can get it sprayed the parts as I work in an industry where I communicate to all for students and can use the facilties at a cheaper rate.

My brother-in-law had a Mk5 R32. I think his road tax was £400. What is the road tax for a Mk4 R32?

My brother had a Mk4 TDI. Heavy car with awful brakes. Though I suppose the R32 will have better brakes.
