I've read daft things on these forums but not using the rear wiper if the window is dirty (i.e. when you most need it) takes the biscuit!!

My rear end looks a lot like Rebecca's (ooh err!) at the moment. Haven't washed it in 5-6 weeks. It's impossible to find the time at this time of year when you work office hours, it's dark at 4pm... and then your weekends are filled with other stuff and/or the weather's too crap to bother. Hoping to find time this weekend but it'll be ruined again within 24 hours!

I've not washed my car in nearly 2 months but I always find 2 minutes to hose the dirt and grit off the windows. It's just common sense.

What's common sense is using that thing that cleans the screen - the wiper.

My A3's windows got scratched to death so it's common sense not to make the same mistake twice.
Each to their own, and I suppose if it's a lease car( like the majority on here) who gives a sh!t anyway

It must just be a window cleaners thing then.

 The risk is minimal. Mine gets cleaned with the wiper generally only once a day and that is first thing in the morning when the rear windscreen is completely wet with exterior condensation and that, coupled with a the screen wash makes for scratch free swiping.

I know you'll never see it this way but it's a protective layer of dirt 

Mine is the same - got Monday off so hopefully a good detail is due!
