Thanks all. It's starting to become a bit of an uphill struggle with VW and the dealers and making me re-consider getting another Golf although I'd imagine most manufacturers/main stealers are the same across the board.

FBASH1R - I'll send you an email although they reckon they've tested the fuel pump on multiple occassions and ruled that out. It also doesn't happen all the time which is strange and would make me wonder if it is the pump. Be interesting to see yours though.

Id look at the high pressure pump cam follower aswell.

I hate intermittent faults grrrrr!!! Its not just vw dealers my work van goes into euro commercials mercedes and comes out worse than it goes in!

How come they charged you for diagnostics etc if you bought the car from a main dealer, did it not come with a warranty?
Had my own fair share with VW dealerships though nothing as dramatic as this.
