Gearbox question

So, mk3 gearbox is in. I tried shifting through the gears but 1st to 2nd doesnt seem to be in a straight line and i can easily engage reverse without pushing down and left. The gearlever in neutral and all of the gears seem to be too far right. Do i need a different shift rod or is it a case of aligning it up?

The chap who deals with transmissions over here is an arsehole from what i've heard. He aint getting squat from me! This mk3 box came up cheap so it seems like a bit of a no brainer.

Just need to align the linkage properly. Put it in reverse. Then loosen the 2 thirteens and then get a mate to put reverse where it should be and tighten the 2 13s up again.
Test it and maybe adjust up again. Had to do mine a few months back. Took a few atemps without the lock tool on the selector
