Many thanks for the heads up and info on GAP insurance. I have just taken out a policy with ALA GAP Insurance. I may have paid a bit more than most of you, but I felt the amount I paid was very little compared to the potential benefit of having the insurance.
I took out 4 years Vehicle Replacement Plus for £299 using the promotion code provided by "Booth11" on this thread. The code worked a treat and made a saving of over £40+. The policy is also superior to the dealer GAP Insurance as it was practically the same policy except for 4 years not 3 years as on the dealers GAP Insurance. Also the cost of the Dealers GAP Insurance was £650 originally, but he offered to knock £100 off as a special offer. So I have still made a saving of a couple hundred pounds.
So I now have 4 years of Vehicle Replacement Plus, GAP Insurance. Yet again many thanks to all of you who have taken part on this thread, your advise has saved me hundreds of pounds.
Glad you got it sorted. Well worth it to know you are fully covered should the worst happen. Always good to get a bit of discount. I paid £199 for my 3 year RVP policy.
Enjoy the surf.
Will do. Roll on Wednesday now for handover of my new car.
@Booth 11: Hows the repair on your Golf R since that ignorant van driver decided to steer in to your car on the roundabout?
Bet you can't wait till Weds. Hope all goes smoothly at collection.
I got mine back on Friday and it's all sorted now. See here
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=259354.msg2547875#msg2547875Despite it going through insurance still got a hefty bill on Fri, what with the excess and paying out for a new rear tyre. One tyre was damaged in the crash and I asked the insurer if they would cover the cost of a new tyre for the other side as not apply about having one tyre half way through it's life and the other brand new. The handbook also states as a 'serious warning' that tyres on the same axle should be changed in pairs. I gave this info and they contacted VW who wussed out and said it was just suggestive guidance! This despite the warning stating risk of serious injury or death if you ignore the warning. Ah well.
Now got the insurance renewal, roadside assistance and road tax to pay this week, so September is an expensive month!!! Also got 1st Service due but fortunately got Service Plan for that.
I'm having front and rear dashcams installed this coming Friday. Just need to find time to give it a good wash too. God to have it back.
