hi there was just wondering if any one had heard of fall out ,
apparently it happens when the car leaves he factory sometimes the paint on the car causes a chemical reation and causes brown spots on the car ,,,mines a pure white gti and is covered with them ,, had the car in AT LOOKERS SILVER LINK  to have a supposedly new tailgatespoiler fitteddue to gap re alignment was re painted got the car back thisevening and the brown marks are still there not a happy bunny    anyone else had this problem   ill be ringing them in the morning

yea my white Gti has little brown spots on it , i took it to be valeted a few months ago and the guy said my car was covered in rust......

Yes, very common and cars usually need or will benefit from, a decontamination process to remove fallout as normal cleaning will not remove these embedded iron contaminants.  Iron/fallout remover such as CarPro Iron X or Bilt Hamber Korrosol, will bring it off.  Used regularly by detailing enthusiasts.  Take a look in the detailing section for more info, but below is some info I gave someone else on another forum recently about this very thing:

Fallout/Iron deposits are present in brake dust and also can be airborne particles from railways and factories etc, that settle on the car and the tiny particles embed themselves into the paintwork. They are also often present on new cars. Whilst a well sealed and protected car can repel them and resist bonding up to a point, they will settle and build up over time and normal washing will not remove anything that has embedded into the paintwork. That's where iron and fallout remover comes in. 
 
Depending on the colour of the car, you may not be able to easily see iron/fallout deposits.  To find out if your car has embedded contaminants, if you run your palm over the paintwork of your car, you may feel a roughness which means contaminants are present and you can usually see iron deposits on wheels.  If you pop your hand into a plastic sandwich bag to do this test, any particles present are emphasised. Any roughness will be a combination of iron particles and likely tar deposits (from the road).  That indicates that a decontamination would be beneficial to get rid of the embedded particles. Iron remover will remove the majority of iron/fallout and tar/glue remover will get rid of tar deposits and tree sap etc.  These products spray on and rinse off and are low risk because there is not much 'touching' of the paintwork involved.  Anything still remaining after this can be removed by claying which pulls contaminants from the paintwork and embeds them into the clay.
 
With iron/fallout remover such as CarPro Iron X, You spray it onto a very clean, washed car, usually doing a few panels at a time (don't let it dry, especially in the sun), and leave it for 5 mins.  A chemical reaction takes place and the solution will turn purple upon contact with iron which you will see on a light coloured car but not on a dark car. After 5 mins, very gently wipe over each panel with a soft microfibre (you need to discard this after), then thoroughly rinse off with a jet washer (or hose) until nothing remains on the car. Best to do the car in sections working your way around in sequence. I would not advise spraying the whole car first in one go, as the first panels may well dry by the time you come to wiping over and rinsing off, so do a few, wipe and rinse, and do next few and so on. 
 
An iron decontamination should ideally be carried out a couple times a year, you may wish to do the wheels once or twice more if there is a regular build up of brake dust but best way to minimise this is to have well sealed wheels.  I do a full decontamination of my car twice a year, including iron remover stage, tar remover stage and claying (if needed).

I'm sure Booth11 (Rebecca - world class detailer!) will be along soon, but, yes, sounds like iron fallout on your cars, causing small brown stains. These are removed very easily using a product called Iron-X. Basically, spray it on, leave a while, until it turns purple,and wash off.

Yes you can buy a product called iron X fallout remover sorts this out spray on and watch the rust run away !

About half a billion years ago, long before my hair turned reflex silver and I still actually had something resembling a waist I used to have to park my white mk1 GTI near a railway station.
Every week I had to spend an hour or ten polishing off iron deposits from train brake dust which had embedded in the bonnet and roof.
How I wished I had something like iron X back then.

Mind you, I'd have loved aircon and 300+ bhp in my Golf back then too.
