Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....etc.

If this is true then I won't be getting another GTI. I don't like the 5 door.

Lets hope so!

Looks like its just in the US - the facelift A3/S3 is still available here in 3 door so doubt they would drop it on the Golf.

Lack of 3dr would be a deal breaker for me on buying another Golf.....

The Golf looks ridiculous with 3 doors anyway so no harm done

You didn't get a choice with the mk1, but i would only want a 3door mk1 anyway
3 door mk2s were incredible
3 door mk3s and 4s were the best of a bad bunch
3 door mk5s just look wrong in my opinion, the rear windows are the wrong shape
Its 50/50 with mk6s
But its back to number 1 for the 3 door mk7.

It depends on the car.

I seem to remember reading at the height of Dieselgate last year VW CEO Muller stating that in future there would be fewer model variants to help keep costs under control. It's also been reported in the motoring press that the next generation Polo, due to be launched next year, will be 5 door only.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Maybe VW will follow Ford (latest Focus) and stop production of slow selling 3 door medium hatchbacks? It'll save a fair few Euros in production rationalising of bodyshells.
For Europe that would be more likely to be mk8 surely? Can't see the FL MK7 going 5 door only in Europe... or will they?  :nerd:

On the plus side, hopefully that'll mean an all new MQB Scirocco to mop up 3 door sales.
