New car damaged in transit

Our gti has arrived at the dealer today, damaged in transit. Dealer says there are a couple of small dents in the roof, that these can be fixed leaving no trace, and they'll give us just over £1000 discount. But we have to sign a disclaimer (I won't know the exact wording until tomorrow). I'm quite happy with this, as long as the damage is completely fixed, but don't want to be a pushover - has anyone else been in this position? Any advice? Thanks

I wouldn't want to sign anything until I've actually seen the work they've done to correct the dents.

They will use PDR (paintless dent removable). If the job is done properly then you should not have any problems. Since it is being carried out by VW make sure you retain the body and paint warranty. Don't really know why the disclaimer is needed? As already said, check the repair first.

I would take a look at the car first and be prepared to walk.  Not sure why a disclaimer is required unless its very bad. 

Also the fact they want to give you 1k before you kick off is a bad sign to me, Its either exceptionally good customer service to offer you large discount before you kick off in the dealership, or the car is in a bad way and they are concerned of warranty paint issues in years to come.

1 last possible option, we aren't all buying cars the same way, so if you are on a 2-3 year PCP who cares.  Take the 1K and give them the car back in 2-3 years.  If its a big new car purchase, a long term car, think twice...

I'd wanna see the damage 1st and the  see the repair before accepting/signing anything

Mine had a very minor scratch on it when I picked it up on the 1st. Dealer gave me 3 years free servicing and sorted it out but did say it was subject to me giving them a good review to VW when it came through as they said they get hammered for things like this. I was happy enough to go along with that as it was barely visible and had not gone through to the paint. Not sure how I'd feel about dents though.

That disclaimer sounds a bit dodgy to me. If the damage is severe and it needs respraying the roof check the work before agreeing or signing anything and also ask for paint warranty. Check the paint peeling topics on golfmk7 as well.

If the damage was minor and easily fixed, i'm surprised they even told you rather than just fixing it on the sly and leaving you none the wiser. Makes me think it isn't so minor...

I wonder whether this is a VW UK santioned discount or if the damage has been discovered too late for the distribution chain to take responsibility (I had a sharp line pressed into a wheel arch onto a brand new Polo years ago. Missed at PDI, I discovered it on my first wash of the car a week after taking delivery - dealership fixed at their cost even though it is obviously a manufacturing defect, once PDI is done, VW avail themselves of any responsibility).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
