Quite right Booth and Exonian. This is a forum for enthusiasts to share information and experiences, good or bad. Also to some degree to obtain sympathy in times of woe, I for one have done so and obtained positive responses which were very welcome. True it may not be good to advertise your car having been in an accident but as Booth said most would be grateful when buying a second hand car that it's full history was honestly laid bare with any issues properly resolved. I too know what I would prefer.

This is awful.  I feel very sorry for you.  I got hit by a Honda Jazz once, albeit in a Ford Fiesta.  The gentleman continued to accelerate whilst embedded in my passenger side door for a good 10 seconds after impact.  He then proceeded to suggest I might be at fault even though he crossed a junction into my side.  I'm not sure why exactly but the jazz is the vehicle to own if you have no interest in cars and thus no interest in knowing how to drive them.  I therefore try and steer well clear of them, sadly this is most difficult when you are parked.  I know from experience how irritating this is as well, my poor old Alfa.  My deepest sympathies and I hope the nice old man in question sorts it with his insurance for you quickly.

Feel for you there mate. Might not be as bad as it looks though. New bonnet and front bumper maybe? Hopefully you get it sorted quickly.

Thanks all for kind responses.  Regarding the point about advertising it on the internet, as good at indexing the web Google may be, I doubt that anyone would find this post when researching my car as a prospective buyer.  I'm pretty sure that despite my number plate being visible - albeit mangled - it won't come up if you google the plate.

But even if it does this is an insurance job.  Not a cheap, fix it up and sell it on.  Also, this isn't a high impact accident so no structural damage in terms of suspension or alignment to worry about, it's all cosmetic.

To be honest, despite the pain of extra admin required to process the claim and collect a courtesy car (Audi A3 S Line TDi by the way) I am quite glad that my front end is being reset to brand new in appearance. After nearly 3 years on the road and some 40,000 miles there are a few blemishes appearing on what is otherwise a pristine car.

With a 5 year guarantee on the job the next owner (I'll probably sell it on at the end of 2017 when my finance agreement is up) should be pleased with having a cracking looking 4 year old GTI.  1 careful owner.  1 incompetent neighbour.

Nicely summed up monsta man! Nice calm responses to the damage and to the comments on here. There is always a bright side. Hope you get a spot on repair. 😀
