Factory mistakes
« on: 05 September 2016, 19:01 »
I was wondering whether anyone here has ever experienced a factory order arrive at the dealers that's not what you originally ordered due to a mistake at the factory?  I ordered a GTD back in May with plenty of extras, including rear side airbags.  The car was built at the end of July and arrived at the dealership in mid-August.  I arranged to pick it up on 01/09, but two days beforehand, the dealer rang to tell me that the rear side airbags had not been fitted to the car, due to a mistake at the factory.  This was after I'd changed my insurance (so I had to phone up and change it back) and booked a few days off work to give the thing a thorough detailing.  All very inconvenient.

After a bit of to and fro (they did try to persuade me to accept the car, with a refund for the missing option, but I refused, as I don't see why I should accept something that's not what I ordered, even if it's a fairly insignificant thing that's missing), they offered to reduce the price by £500, which I accepted.  The other option was to cancel, but that would mean losing out due to depreciation (and I couldn't find another car I wanted instead, though I toyed with the idea of a fully-loaded 330d). Whilst all that was going on, I got in contact with VW UK, who promised to investigate.

VW got back to me this morning, confirming that it was indeed a mistake on the part of someone at the factory, though they didn't explain exactly how it happened in the first place.  I was asked whether the dealer had made a goodwill gesture and confirmed that they had.  The VW operative said he'd speak to the dealer (not sure why - he mentioned that there was a maximum compensation figure, but didn't say what this was).

So, has anyone else suffered a messed up order?  Did you get any compensation, and if so, what?  I'm interested in comparing with my experiences.  I'm happy with £500, as this will cover the tax and MOT that I need to pay at the end of October.

More common than you'd think. Few I've heard of:
- An R arriving with black Pretoria wheels (not even an option here in Ireland or UK afaik!)
- A GTI arriving with one GTD headlight (so only one had the red stripe)
- An R with one cloth trimmed door card - the other 3 being the correct "pleather".

All the above are fairly easy ones to rectify, easier than side airbags anyway! But it's amazing that this kind of thing gets through quality checks.

I was the first to order a Manual Pearl Black GTD (with no options at my local dealership back in March 2013.

My dad was the 4th to order from the same dealership, a Tornado Red DSG GTD.

I changed my order from Black to Tornado Red (although I love Tornado Red, I'd initially had reservations about me and my dad having twin cars, even though I only see him a few times a year as he lives 350 miles from me, but then thought twice about Pearl Black being hard work to keep clean)

My Dad's DSG turned up first, first UK GTD on this website - except it was Pearl Black. When I changed my order, the dealership swapped colours on the wrong car - instead of my Black becoming Red, his Red became Black.

My Dad got the Pearl paint at no extra charge, but nothing else - and he jumped the queue by 3 months.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Mass production - it happens.
Unfortunately there are still humans in the process, we aren't perfect

Mine turned up without the DCC, again the dealer tried to get me to accept it. Wasn't prepared to and there were no acceptable cars in the country. Surprising, only a very few have the rear air bags, that I also ordered.

Had to reorder, but kept the original trade in price and got some extras thrown in by the dealer.

Golf Mk.6 match - missing Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Pointed it out to the dealer who could hardly believe it. He was then so apologetic I said just forget about it!

My mk6 GT also had this missing, think the dealer retrofitted it.
Also arrived with the S front grille either side of the vw badge. (all black no chrome bits)

I only got it for the extra button on the centre console... and it then transpired the reset button had been relocated to the glovebox so no great loss, lol!
