Mk4 golf, Cone or Standard OME

Ok i have been reading lots of posts of people confused at what to do with with their airbox on their mk4 1.8t
I didn't wanna put a cone filter on for 2 reason,  Mpg suffers and so does performance as the engine is sucking in very hot air from around the engine bay area.. I know R-tech and other companies make a small housing for theirs which I could buy,  but after speaking to them they told me they have got better numbers on the dyno with a standard airbox.. My problem was i upgraded my Tip to a Creation Motorsport oversize TIP with a 80mm maf end.  I ended up bolting a mk1 Audi Tt 225 airbox in, it fit perfectly. BEWARE THERE ARE DIFFERENT AIR BOXES..  Some don't have the return breather pipe hole but I managed to find one on Ebay for £28 fits perfectly.
Roll on next month as I start making my custom intercooler pipes 3"

Can anyone tell me why I can't upload a picture?  I do it in the attachments part right?  Nothing comes up when I press that? Im using a phone? Does that matter?

I don't think you need 3" charge pipes unless you was making enough power that the standard air box impedes performance.

2.5" is plenty if you're using an OEM turbo (hybrids included)

You also need to look at the feed going to the airbox, the R32 inlet pipe running from the front grille behind the battery are larger than standard. you dont need a R32 airbox, you can open out the inlet hole of you tt airbox with a Stanley knife. This mod gives a much better motorway speed throttle response.

Usually a larger MAF housing needs coded into your engine management.

Be very aware that if you are keeping the standard bumper and your Golf has AC it will be a ball ache to fit any sizeable intercooler.

Well it's not a ball ache it's just more expensive. Forge and THS kits fit very well behind a standard bumper

I've got a THS front mount on mine and I've had to trim the drivers side of the bumper fairly heavily to get the pipe to fit - it's still not perfect but not a bad fit, still needed some trimming trial and error though.

On a related note I was looking for the THS website the other day but couldn't find anything - have they gone bust or something?
