I check oil, fluid, water levels each week along with tyres and pressures etc. It only takes a few minutes. But people leave their cars to suffer until the garage tells them it is wrong, so there is an opportunity to make money = inspection service.
My cars get an oil change and service every year or when the recommended miles is reached, whichever comes first, if vw told me it wasn't nessasery, i would tell them its getting done anyway, i like to know that the car is getting all the maintenance it wants and a bit more to keep it happy.
377 days, i would be changing the oil and having it changed again before 377 days were up. Even if i didn't have to commute to work.
I don't trust them when the say they can go ages without a service, over several years that will damage the engine, though gullible (everybody) people will believe it (remember a person is smart but people are dumb, sense isn't common), my hobby also though.
Give it the maintenance it wants and needs not what they say it needs, they might lose money servicing cars less but then they can make more money selling you parts to fix them because stuff is worn out.
Old volvos were tough but didn't make much money because they never needed repairing. Brick $#!t houses, false economy.
